My experience with Ability Medical was phenomenal, from the beginning it was easy setting up an appointment for an evaluator to come out to your house. Scott Leikala came to my house and was professional and courteous the entire time. He measured me thoroughly from head to toe so he would be able to custom fit my wheelchair. Once we got through the measurements he got on his computer and offered advice (not pushy, just informative) on what would be the right chair for me. We went through a couple of websites before I found the chair that I wanted. Once I found the chair we started customizing it.
Without hesitation Scott offered his advice and experience which enabled me to pick the right chair for my needs with a little flare to go along with it. After we chose the chair all I had to do was sit back and relax while Scott and his team over at Ability Medical (Lynda Russel) took care of all the paperwork and finding me funding for the chair.
In two months I had my brand new chair delivered to my front door, again Scott helped me customize The chair to suit me perfectly. If it wasn’t for Scott, Lynda and all thewonderful people at Ability Medical I would not be enjoying the freedom and mobility that I have today. I cannot thank everyone at Ability Medical for the help and professionalism that I experience during this entire process.
If you need a wheelchair or any type of medical equipment there is no other medical company that I can recommend than Ability Medical.
I wanted to do something very special for my new bride for our wedding, something that I haven’t done in over a decade….stand. I really didn’t know how to accomplish task. I looked at the websites and saw electric standers for thousands of dollars which I could never raise that amount in the short time I had. I went to my Medicare adviser and my Vocational Rehabilitation counselor, neither one could offer me any hope. The only
thing they would tell me “a person who is paralyzed from the waist down could never be approved for an electric wheelchair, let alone a standing one”. “Medicare just does not see the benefits of a standing wheelchair and they will not approve it”, said by my Vocational Rehabilitation counselor.
I almost gave up until I met with Scott Leikala from Ability Medical. I needed a new wheelchair because mine was 6 years old and about to fall apart on me which threatened my freedom and mobility. Scott came over my house and talked to me about my needs. I told him about my plans for the wedding and he told me that there was a solution; a manual stander. I honestly did not know they made manual standers, I thought they were all electric.
He let me try it out and it was a breeze standing up, all I had to do was (with little effort, mind you) push down on two bars that were on either side of me and in an instant I was standing to my full 6’4″ again. It felt empowering being able to stand up again, with little ease. At my wedding I was able to surprise my wife; while she was walking down the aisle I pushed down on the bars and in an instant I was standing tall and proud for everyone to see. I heard gasps and applause as I said my vows looking at my beautiful bride eye to eye which is something we hadn’t done since we started dating. I felt pride, joy, excitement and most of all confident.
There are no words to express my gratitude for Brad Hannan from Permobil who made it possible to get the chair and for Scott from Ability Medical for making my dream come
true and allowing me to stand at my wedding.
